Jonathon Hinz, DO, is a sports medicine board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in shoulder and knee surgery in Metro Detroit. His practice focuses on arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery, including rotator cuff repair, treatment of shoulder instability and recurrent shoulder dislocation, anatomic and reverse shoulder replacement, ACL
reconstruction, meniscus surgery, and cartilage restoration.

Dr. Hinz sees patients in St. Clair Shores and Shelby Township and cares for athletes, active adults, and patients with degenerative shoulder and knee conditions.
 

Dr. Hinz earned his medical degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital, where he served as Chief Resident. He then completed a Sports Medicine fellowship at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, receiving advanced training in arthroscopy, ligament reconstruction, cartilage restoration, and shoulder and knee arthroplasty.
 

During fellowship, Dr. Hinz assisted with team physician coverage for the Pawtucket Red Sox, Massachusetts Pirates, Worcester State University, Becker College, and multiple high schools in Central Massachusetts. This experience helped shape an approach to orthopedic care centered on restoring function and helping patients safely return to work, recreation, and sport.
 

Dr. Hinz treats a broad range of shoulder and knee conditions. His shoulder practice includes rotator cuff tears, recurrent shoulder instability and labral injuries, biceps pathology, shoulder arthritis, and patients who may benefit from anatomic or reverse shoulder replacement. His knee practice includes ACL injuries, meniscus tears, patellar instability, cartilage injuries, and knee arthritis.
 

Treatment begins with understanding the patient's diagnosis, activity level, and goals. Dr. Hinz uses both nonsurgical and surgical treatment options and works with each patient to develop an individualized plan focused on reducing pain, restoring mobility and strength, and returning to meaningful activities.
 

A native of Grosse Pointe Woods and graduate of Grosse Pointe North High School, Dr. Hinz returned to Metro Detroit to care for the community where he grew up. He is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy Association of North America, and American Osteopathic Association.
